Chief Justice Bonnie Sudderth (R), elevated to that position from Place 4 on the court in 2017, ran unopposed and will begin her full six-year term in January 2019.

Effective November 19, 2017, Dabney Bassel was appointed to serve as a Justice on the Second Court of Appeals, Place 5.
2015 NEWS AND DEVELOPMENTS
In opinion written by Justice Sudderth, Second Court of Appeals rejects proposition that unjust enrichment is an independent cause of action, disagreeing with Houston Court of Appeals. Davis v OneWest Bank N.A. (Tex. App. - Fort Worth, April 9, 2015).
352nd District Court Judge Bonnie Sudderth has replaced Justice Bob McCoy (Place 4). She was appointed to higher office by Governor Rick Perry on January 7, 2015. Judge Sudderth had made a name for herself statewide with her blawg on evidence. Justice Sudderth is on Facebook, identified as "Government Official".
2014 JUDICIAL ELECTIONS
Two Republican incumbents on this court were up for re-election in 2014, and neither drew a challenger in the general election. Justice Bill Meier was reelected with 427,437 votes to Place 2. Justice Lee Gabriel received 425,604 votes and remains as justice holding Place 7 of the Fort Worth - based Court of Appeals.
