2018 ELECTION

Republican Scott Stevens ran unopposed in the 2018 general elections and will replace incumbent Justice Bailey C. Moseley (R), who did not seek re-election. His term expired Dec. 31, 2018.

NOTEWORTHY CASE IN 2018  

4/24/2015: Texas Supreme Court reverses Texarkana Court of Appeals on scope to Texas Citizens Participation Act, holding that the Act is not limited to communications in a public form. Lippincott v Whisenhunt, No. 13-0926 (Tex. April 24, 2015), reversing Whisenhunt v. Lippincott, No. 06-13-00051-CV, 2013 WL 553968, at *4 n.5 (Tex.App.—Texarkana Oct. 9, 2013, pet. filed) (“Because we conclude that the statute does not apply, we need not decide whether the commercial speech exception applies in this case.”).

2014 ELECTION: Ralph K. Burgess (R) was elected to Place 3 with 126,539 votes. He did not draw an opponent. Burgess will succeed Justice Jack Carter, who announced that he will retire at the end of the year when his term expires.
